supernice

This is Vanessa's personal tumblrzine, for family and friends everywhere. I like all sorts of stuff, and I like to share.

If you'd like to see my work work, skip on over to www.vanessaholden.com.

In my real life you can find me at vanessaholden[at]mac[dot]com; in studios and meetings & offices quite (but not too) often; most happily at the beach; at Pearl Paint buying stuff for a project; at La Colombe or The Adore, & sometimes (just quietly) at Beard Papa, but then I don't like to talk about that particular addiction.

In our apartment I live no further than 15ft away from everyone - why wouldn’t I choose a yurt in the Arizona desert, where at least there aren’t 20 million people right on the other side of my front door? There’s something crazy poetic about this in the NYTimes today.

“He chose to be rich by making his wants few, and supplying them himself.”
Emerson on Thoreau. I’m experiencing a mighty mighty desire to go live in the woods, or on the beach, and I don’t think it’s just summertime talking.

Want to make/want someone to make me this. I’ll look like a sack of potatoes, but I could care less.

The idea of eating outside tonight has me woozy. We’ll be celebrating the Catalan spring rite of the calçotada: which is really a birthday party for the calçot, a spring onion resembling a leek. The tubers are grilled, presented in heaps, and eaten while drinking rosé at communal tables with romesco sauce. They’ll be served with grilled lamb chops and botifarra sausage. Crema catalana for dessert. Ah, yes please, now …

Susie says I might like York, Maine. I think she’s right. I think I have to get there sooner rather than later. I need some salt water in my hair. I’m thinking about drifting all the time.

Is there a worse way to let the world know stuff like this about you? If there is I can’t think of it. Sad.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made…

Gatsby. Sometimes people act like Toms and Daisies, and they don’t even know it. But most of the time, they totally know it. (via rach)

It’s true.
